About God's Business -Getting To The Root of The Prosperity Teachings
Part II of The Prosperity Theology versus The Hell and Damnation Theology.
The hell and damnation sermons are rooted in fear. Make no mistake, and I do not, I repeat, do not believe in scaring people to God. That's not who God is because we have free will. The portion of truth in these sermons are only that following God's standards work. Yes, one day we will be judged by God, but it will not be based merely on how much money we gave or how we behaved. Our salvation isn't based on our works.
Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.
In our time on this earth, it is to choose to love God or not. Our choice, thankfully, is not based on one decision. We have years, some more than others, to decide and show what it means to give up our desires and take on God's. Therefore each day we are here we make a choice. We don't get breaks or a day off because we don't need to take a break. It's nothing we are doing that has saved us, and the Holy Spirit is prompting us to the truth. 1 Peter 2. Because I love God, I see his commandments as loving standards of living instead of harsh joy sucking rules. I see a heavenly Father who only wants the best for me, for us. Why not follow his word? Following his standards has made life much easier for me. He prepares me for my trials, and HE gets the glory!! Amen!! I tried to live a life without God, and I hated it, and I will not go back!!
The prosperity teaching also has some truth. Although, I do not believe in all aspects of this teaching. I repeat I do not believe in all aspects of this teaching. There is a proper way we are to approach God with the things we need. God knows our needs and most the time we think we need money but what we need is God's favor. Paying tithes releases God's favor first! Wow! That was a recent revelation for me. You see when many people did not receive the increase they hoped for from the Hell and Damnation sermons or the prosperity teachings they left the church or stop giving altogether. (The prosperity teaching created false returns to encourage people to give.)
One thing is correct; God did not call his people into spiritual poverty or financial poverty. Although without God we are spiritually impoverished.
"You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. Revelation 3:17 NIV
God wants us to be holy. Outside of not believing in him, we limit miracles. Miracles are real but not by giving money. You can't purchase miracles, blessings or salvation. Jesus is the healer! Not money. Although God will bless us when we give, that should not be our only reason for giving. Check your heart.
Avoiding Extremes: Many people went from believing money could make God give blessings to not trusting in him at all. Today we are wealth focused but did not involve asking God. Instead, many decided to circumvent the system but working all types of crazy hours, giving everything away in hopes of a return, demanding prayers, name it and claim it, fake it until you make it, debt, theft, and manipulation to get wealth. Or the other extreme is the need to be financially poor to be an honorable Christian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joshua 1:8 NIV - Keep this Book of Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Old Testament but still rings true today.
Romans 12:2 NIV - Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good pleasing and perfect will.
John 16:7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.
